Oceana still hasn’t found a VP for Belize

Audrey Matura Shepherd

OCEANA Belize has been one of the most fervent and active environmental groups. It has challenged offshore drilling concessions and made waves when it tried to push for a referendum on the question of drilling. Thursday will be the last day for Audrey Matura Shepherd as OCEANA’s Vice President for Belize. Matura Shepherd told the media today, that she spoke to OCEANA’s C.E.O., Andy Sharpless, and he said that a replacement has not yet been identified.

“One of questions I asked him was have you found a replacement and the answer is no. What has happened is there have been many applicants and they want to make sure that they get the right person to continue the work. So in the next two weeks or so we’ll have 2 members of DC office to come to Belize to interview the applicants that they have shortlisted. I can’t say who they are but I think that within a month and month a half they should be able to hire a news Vice President. In the interim the person who is holding over is Mr. Floyd Neal. He has always been my right hand and my assistant; he knows everything that I have done. I have put in place systems, like my work, my laptop everything the work I have done the new V.P. can go on laptop and find all files. Oceana will continue. I can tell you over 20 people applied.”
