Belmopan resident chopped to the head

A forty-two year old Salvadoran national is currently in serious condition at the Western Regional Hospital. Amilcar Alvarado Cortez was chopped to the head and hand on Thursday evening while hanging out at the corner of Guatemala Street in the Salvapan area of Belmopan.  Residents of the area told News Five that Cortez was chopped while hanging out by a truck parked at the corner, and while bleeding profusely, he then ran down the street and became incapacitated near a cement culvert where he remained until a Police mobile patrol carried him to the hospital. There were no witnesses to speak about the incident. However, Police say that Cortez was intoxicated and they have been unable to properly question him still. Two men have been detained in connection with the incident. By all accounts, Cortez is a loner who survives by chopping wood for the bakery in the area. Although Police say he lives on Costa Rica Street in Salvapan, today we were unable to find anyone on that street who has heard of him.
