Imprisoned for two rounds, but wrong bullets appear at trial

Gilberto Welcome

Twenty-two year old Gilberto Welcome was acquitted of ammunition charges on Tuesday evening when he appeared before Magistrate Dale Cayetano.  Following the discovery of two live rounds of nine millimeter ammo inside his bedroom late last month, Welcome was charged with Kept Ammunition Without a Gun License and subsequently remanded to the Belize Central Prison.  Welcome’s acquittal succeeded submissions made on his behalf by attorney Bryan Neal, who argued that the bullets shown to him were not the same ones taken from his residence.  Police Corporal Bradford Bowen testified that on July thirty-first, he recovered an S and B brand nine millimeter ammunition as well as a Win brand nine millimeter round from a pair of shoes inside Welcome’s home.  However, the bullets shown to him in court today had the inscription P.A. on it.  With that Neal entered a no case submission and Welcome was freed of the charges.
