Is marriage an option after a drunken machete incident?

Michael Zuniga

A woman who is engaged to a B.D.F. soldier is having second thoughts about marriage after he allegedly punched her, pulled a machete on her and threatened to kill her and her family. According to Melissa Jenkins, she and her fiancé Michael Zuniga were at a family function at her mother’s home when Zuniga got drunk and they got into a misunderstanding. She claims she went home and Zuniga followed her, and that’s when the argument escalated and Zuniga allegedly pulled a machete on her and punched her. The Police were called in to investigate the domestic dispute and that’s when Zuniga allegedly told her to tell Police that they had been having sex or he would kill her and her family. Zuniga, a B.D.F. soldier, appeared before Magistrate Clive Lino and was read charges of aggravated assault, harm and using threatening words. He pleaded not guilty and was offered bail of five thousand dollars plus one surety of the same amount. The court also found that he owed a fine of eight hundred dollars on a possession of controlled drugs charge from 2009. Zuniga spent the night in lock down at the Belize Central Prison before making bail today.
