Awesome sporting highlights with James Adderley
Good evening I’m James Adderly and this is Sports Monday.
Let’s head to the Norman Broaster Stadium where Atlantic Bank interdistrict football competition staged the semi-final match between Triple B and DFC Gentle Touch inside the Norman Broaster stadium, Saturday afternoon.
After last week’s 2-1 in game 1 of the 2 game semi-final series, DFC Gentle Touch came out swinging as Kimberly Perez outruns the Triple B defence to fire this left foot that just inches over the target.
Nevertheless, we’re only 9 minutes in when Miriam Villamil fires this long distance floater at goal. Myrenie Drysdale, the goalkeeper botches what should have been a routine save so Triple B takes the 1-zip lead.
Abbey Holleday then looks to tie the ballgame with this launch from long distance only to see Idania Ramirez come up with a comfortable save.
At the 31st minute Kiana Martinez speeds past 2 Gentle Touch defenders so get off the shot before colliding with Myrenie Drysdale for the 2-nil lead
Martinez then looks for her 2nd goal of the match with this left foot offensing that wasn’t too far off.
So we go to the 2nd half and we’re minutes in when Jermisha Scott hooks up with Iris Centeno whose header bounces off the near upright. Kiana Martinez tries to capitalize off the rebound but ends up fouling the goal keeper.
Kaya Cattouse then looks to triple the lead with this shot from outside the box that Drysdale can’t corral, the loose ball reaches Iris Centeno whose left foot launch is impeded by the near post.
We’re at the 68th minute when Kaya Cattouse beats Shannon Gentle to score the 3rd goal of the match for Triple B.
Goal #4 for Triple B comes when Drysdale fails to clear this ball outside the danger zone. Jermisha Scott heads it to Kaya Cattouse whose launch somehow beats the keeper.
At the 85th minute, Cindy Fuentes shuffles her way through traffic to let loose this left foot that gives Gentle Touch the consolidation goal of the match.
Thus the 4-1 win gives Triple B a 7-2 aggregate over DFC Gentle Touch to arrive at the 2013 championship round.
They’ll go up against Ladyville who got 2 goals from Kara Kisling to edge Dangriga Pumas whose only goal came from Jacqueline Arzu in a 2-1 final score. Thus Ladyville moves on with a 4-3 aggregate. However, the championship series has been put on a 2 week pause as the National female U-17 team heads to Honduras to compete in the UNCAT eliminations for a spot in the Canada U-17 world cup.
Also leaving Belize over the weekend is the National U-15 male team which travels to Grand Cayman for the 2013 CONCACAF U-15 Championship. We wish both teams the best.
Turning to the softball scene, news from the VIII Pan American Woman’s championship leaves us nothing to cheer about as far as our softball team goes. On Saturday Belize was blanked 5-zip by Venezuela while on Sunday we fell 3-2 to Peru and got hammered 8-zip by Puerto Rico.
Meanwhile folks here are the results from the pre-September classic staged on Marine Parade yesterday. Giovanni Lovell won the open race, beating his brother and Telemedia teammate Gregory Lovell while Henry Morriera finishes 3rd.
Dion Young won the 8-10 age group. Gian Lovell the 11 to 13 group and Gerson Lovell took the 14 to 16 category.
In basketball news, play Friday night in the firms competition saw Courts handle Sprite 66 to 49, Atlantic Bank shutdown Ready Call 71 to 58 and BWSL got over Heritage Bank 55 to 42. On Saturday Customs/Min. Of Education beat Belize City Council/Post Office 67 to 61, Belize Bank blew out PUC 85-41 while port of Belize/Airport prevailed over Central Health/Audit Dept. 79-75
No offence but My name is Kaina Martinez not kiana Martinez. Even the pronunciation of my name has been mispronounce, but we can get it right wen we meet in person. Respect always
