Free to import flour, but duty gone way up

There were over a dozen bills passed in the House of Representatives on Wednesday. You wouldn’t realize that since most of the day was spent discussing a Caribbean Court of Justice ruling. But among the bills was one concerning flour which was passed and allows for the free importation of flour. Anyone could import flour but the bill is putting importers out of business. According to one importer the duty has gone up at least one hundred percent on flour from Mexico. One of the more established bakers, Andre Perez, told News Five that he has been paying sixty-nine dollars to seventy-five dollars for flour from Mexico. But with the additional duty that cost has increased by fifteen dollars. The importer says that a sack of flour from Belize Mills is eighty-one dollars and that is too high to keep his business afloat and that importing at ninety dollars from Mexico is impossible. According to Perez, it seems that the bill was intended to encourage people to buy flour from ADM Belize Mills at eighty-one dollars per sack of flour.

Do you see how counter productive and spiteful this government really is??…now the PM he is outrightly saying he is doing this in favour of Belize Mills…what about the bakers?? what about the poor prople who wil suffer higher prices?? Those same people who put you where you are right now?..see this is the thing i dont get with these politicians…they try to make peoplr believe that the are there for the people but you can plainly see they are there to suit business interests of friends, families an cronies aside from their own personal interests. Someone in government surely got their hands buttered pretty good by belize mills…people will jus have to resort to illegally importing flour if the government wont do something about the local prices…because they are not on par with market pricee…its a monopoly i tells you..
