PM chides Francis Fonseca for signing Accommodation Agreement

Dean Barrow

Prime Minister Barrow has also stated that he has little doubt that the CCJ ruling will have a negative impact on Fonseca’s quest to become Prime Minister of Belize. To that end, the government has already launched a political ad campaign maligning the leader of the opposition. But elections are still a long way off, and Fonseca says he is prepared to be judged by the people at election time, just as the Prime Minister will be judged for his performance.

Dean Barrow, Prime Minister

“From where I stand this indicts the leader of the opposition terribly. For example with the renewal of the ships registry. The leader of the opposition has only signed as a witness which the C.C.J. has struck down. He signed substantively, he entered into it, it was entered into by both the Minister of Finance and the Attorney General. I haven’t heard either of them comment but it seems to me there is not anything that they can say. This as you put it is coming from the highest court in the land, the highest court in the Caribbean and Lord the what have been said is absolutely damming it is a terrible indictment and I would think that in fact the public is not going to lose sight of the C.C.J. judgment and why the C.C.J. had to be as strong as it was. And what was done by the leader of the opposition at the time that he was A.G. but vamos a ver.”

Francis Fonseca, PUP Leader

Francis Fonseca

“I think the same can be said of the Prime Minster. I think if anyone asks me if all the corruption, cronies and the nepotism that is eating away in at the Barrow government will have a negative effect on his political future, absolutely. I think as I have said in relation to my position on the matter certainly I have said this from 2008. The Belizean people will decide they will listen to what we have to say on this matter and they will make a determination.”

For his part, Fonseca has maintained that while the CCJ has ruled that the agreement should have gone before parliament for approval…as Attorney General at the time that was not his decision to make.

  1. Citizen says:

Robin Hood have time to worry about who will be prime minister, when he is being judged by many thieves we have parading as honorable, and not a whiff of corruption is in the air. The people of this country are suppose to be blind and shouldn’t question where these riches are coming from. But you see Robin Hood families just like Gabi’s are raking in the $$$$ so it’s an all out grab by all, to see who will fare off better.

  2. Concern says:

Let us see how our monies is being spent by airing out the Auditor General report in public, then we can talk about who will be the next prime minister.
