Belizean students offered Mexican scholarships

Marcelino Miranda

Belizean students interested in pursuing tertiary level studies in Mexico are being given an opportunity to apply for all-expense-paid scholarships in a number of graduate and post-graduate programs.  A total of twenty-five scholarships are currently available through the Mexican Institute in offerings which include physics, engineering and agriculture.  Interesting candidates are asked to visit the institute’s Facebook page or contact press officer Marcelino Miranda for more information.  Miranda spoke with News Five earlier today about requirements and eligibility for the various scholarships.

Marcelino Miranda, Press Officer, Embassy of Mexico

“Every year, the Mexican Embassy and the Government of Mexico is offering different program for scholarships for Belizeans. These different program have different time tables but one of the ones that has been launched is twenty-five scholarships for Belizeans. This includes ten scholarships for post graduate studies and fifteen for undergraduate. So we are inviting those students who are interested in studying in Mexico, to come and to contact the Mexican Embassy. We advise and we recommend a lot to keep in contact with the Institute of Mexico in Belize City because this is the way that they are not only going to obtain information about these applications, but also to get special attention in order to get recommendations or get special tips in order to fill out the application forms. And the other thing is that those who are interested in this scholarship should take into account that these are full scholarships. So this is a very good opportunity to go and take advantage of the huge range of programs and universities that are available in Mexico. Right now as we know there are those Belizean students who are in Mexico in different universities. We are talking about a country that has a hundred and twelve million people; therefore, the offer of universities is huge and also the programs.”

“What are some of the programs being offered for this particular scholarship?”

Marcelino Miranda

“Actually it is the opposite. The offer is huge, it is different—it goes from physics, to engineering, to medicine or to business. The important thing for those who are interested is to define what exactly is the program that they are interested and from there we can recommend different universities that are offering those programs. But the important thing to keep in mind is that they offer full undergraduate and post graduates is big. Actually especially for post graduate studies, the number of scholarships is open. There are some universities that as long as the applicant pass the exam, they will be able to get these scholarships.”

There are presently several hundred Belizeans pursuing baccalaureate and master’s degrees in Mexico City.
