Summer art camp keeps Eder’s spirit alive

Story PictureHe was an inspired artist who never hesitated to share his talent with others. And even though Eder Alamilla is no longer with us, his passion remains.

Today children between the ages of five and fifteen were all awarded with certificates after successfully participating in the 2006 Eder Alamilla Summer Art camp. This year classes also coincided with the Expressive Arts Summer Camp also held at The Bliss Institute of Creative Arts.

The children displayed both their musical talent and impressive art work. Camp organizer Tania Alamilla Mahler says she is always pleasantly surprised by the ongoing positive response they receive for an initiative the family started in their effort to keep their brother?s memory alive.

?So when I started counting we had seventy-five in the morning and about forty to fifty kids in the afternoon.?

?The first day they did the name tags. They did a self-portrait, they did a vase, they did a bookmark with their pictures on it, they did friendship bracelets, shaving cream art and they did so many things. It was several things we did–decorating the cups. We did ten different things this year.?

But as this year?s camp ended, already preparations are well underway for the 2007 summer event that promises to be even bigger.

Camp organisers would like to thank their sponsors, especially the Protected Areas Conservation Trust, PACT.
