Mark David Robateau found floating in Macal

Mark David Robateau

San Ignacio Police are investigating the cause of death of a Santa Elena resident found floating in the Macal River. Twenty-eight year old Mark David Robateau was last seen by relatives on Saturday evening and today the family received the shocking news that his body was retrieved out of the river. At about nine-ten this morning, police were called to the low-lying bridge in the Twin Towns where they saw the lifeless body of a male person on the banks of the river.  The body was removed from the river by a passerby who spotted the corpse floating face down in the river. His family was called out to the scene where Robateau’s body was identified by his younger brother. According to the family and police, no visible signs of foul play were seen on the body…but an immediate observation was that he was bleeding from the nose, mouth and ears. The body was taken to the San Ignacio Hospital where a post mortem was scheduled for late this afternoon. At this point in the investigation, the case is being treated as a sudden death.
