Vinnie Murdered….family confirms relations to gangs

Alvin "Vinnie" Pascasio

While Flowers clings to life, the body of twenty-eight year old Alvin “Vinnie” Pascasio was found this morning. Pascasio was last seen by his family last Monday and this morning, their worst fears were confirmed when his body was found in bushes at the entrance of the Vista Del Mar community on the Phillip Goldson Highway. There were apparent gunshots wounds to the head. And while the motive for his execution remains unknown; his family admits he was involved with two Belize City gangs. Police are also looking for another Belize City youth who was also reported missing, but are cautious in making any connection to Pascasio’s murder. News Five’s Isani Cayetano spoke to the grieving family this morning.

Dezree Flores, Mother of Deceased

“Ih really hurt to see my son like this.  Thursday morning, this morning the corporal called me and seh, “wih find ah body, wi noh sure if da he.  Cohn check.”  And it is him.  It’s a sight no mother would want to see their child in.  It’s horrible.  It’s horrible. It’s hurt bad.”

The discovery of a corpse, in an advanced state of decomposition, later identified as the body of twenty-year-old Alvin Pascascio, near the entrance of Vista del Mar, is a grim conclusion to a recent investigation conducted by Ladyville Police into his whereabouts.  Vinnie, as he was affectionately known, was reported missing by his mother a few days ago.

“Tuesday morning, I got a call saying if I hear what happened to my son and I said, “No. What happened?” Dehn seh ih dead.  Dehn kill ahn dah Ladyville last night and I said, “No, it can’t be because no police noh call me.  My ma live da Ladyville, my sister, my brother, nobody tell me anything.”  So, I just hung up the phone and I thought about it a little while and I said, “No, my son noh dead.”

Isani Cayetano

“You mentioned that you received a phone call telling you that your son had been murdered.  Did you inquire how this individual came across this information?

Dezree Flores

“I did. I did and I went out to get further information and it was his own friends that were saying somebody told them that dehn kill ahn.”

Christopher Noble

According to Pascascio’s live-in girlfriend, he was at their home in the Yarborough community on Monday, shortly after three o’clock that afternoon.  Vinnie was also reportedly seen in the company of a close friend at a home in Ladyville, before leaving moments later.  Assistant Superintendent Christopher Noble is the Officer Commanding the Ladyville Police Sub-Formation.

“At present we’re looking into what have caused his death and who may be responsible.  Our investigation into this matter has been for a couple of days now so it is only ongoing.”

While a motive for the brutal slaying is yet to be ascertained, Pascascio’s mother, Dezree Flores, admits that her son was an associate of both the Rocky Road and Taylor’s Alley gangs.  The aforesaid groups remain in a bitter rivalry with members of the George Street Gang.  A connection, if any, should be established during an investigation into the homicide.

Dezree Flores

“He did tell me that, ih seh, “Ma, me and some ah dehn guys have wah lee misundastanding dehn seh dehn wah kill me.”  But I said, “Vinnie, noh worry bout dehn.  Noh fear no man, fear God.” He has enemies ‘cause, you know, dehn have this [beef].  He hangs out with Rocky Road and Pregnant Alley and then they have their enemies and so when he woulda seh, you know, these guys want to kill me, I noh even know da who and I just tell ahn noh fear.”

In a preliminary report issued by the Belize Police Department this morning, indications are that Pascascio’s body had what appeared to be gunshot wounds.  The far along state in which the stiff was found required that a post mortem examination be conducted on site.  Flores believes her son may have been tortured prior to being executed.

Dezree Flores

“Ih eyes, you know, dehn swell out, dehn push out, ih tongue hang out.  Ih have wahn mark around ih neck and ih look like dehn shoot ahn eena ih head too, ah mean I noh know if da just shoot ih tongue and ih eyes wah di swell out like dat, I noh know.  Ah mean from Monday night to now, I just noh think dehn kill ahn from Monday night, I believe dehn had him, torturing him.”

Isani Cayetano

“There’s another young man missing, is there any association between your son and this person who is still at large?”

Dezree Flores

“Actually, I don’t know the guy and, you know, I pray that his mother noh find him in this state ‘cause no mother noh wahn sih dehn child like this.  I do hope he  turns up alive.

Chris Noble

“That other missing person, we’re looking into the possibility of his whereabouts and, as it relates to him, we are hoping for the best not to have it conclude in this manner.”

Up until March, Pascasio was living in Ladyville with his parents. Since then, he moved in with his girlfriend in the Yarborough Area and had began receiving threats on his life.

Young black men are an endangered species in this country. I am at a lost at the coldness of heart that our young people have today. The future of this country is so endangered, so many young men are dying. We know that the young people are the future of the country and those who are alive have no plans for the future. It has become a kill or be killed environment, my gosh the government needs to step in and do some constructive things to give these kids some hope for a future.

    Really sad.

The mother knew he was involved in gangs and told him “don’t fair, God is in control” instead of saying “get out of that sh***t and seek good and do good for yourself”.

My heard saddens to see the youth get wasted this way.
