Inaugural Strongman Competition is a hit

Story PictureGood evening. I?m James Adderley and we?re indeed privileged to beam to you live into your living rooms this serving of Sports Monday.

So let?s head out to Old Belize on the Western Highway where Sunday?s strongman competition is already in session.

And pulling a 2006 Toyota Hilux pickup is Billy Woods, whose techniques makes four thousand pounds of metal on wheels look like child?s play as he covers the one hundred feet distant.

Woods certain encounters major problem with this six hundred pound tire, and knows that he did give up some precious time in this event.

In the meantime he does not appear to have too much problems with the loading of the five hundred pounds of stones onto the excavator.

It?s onto the lifting of pumping jack, a construction equipment that weighs one hundred and fifty pounds, and that is no problem. Hey guys you must eat real good to handle this event. You can see the toll on Billy Woods as he lifts these ten drums at three hundred and sixty pounds each to complete the fifth event.

We say Billy makes the tire loading look like a piece of cake, and he does load all five hundred and sixty pound tire to conclude his participation with a total time of 4 minutes 21 seconds, the best today.

Folks, Floyd Rojas had the opportunities to overtake the leader, but his struggle with the six hundred pound tire was mighty and of course more importantly time consuming. By the time he finished he had recorded 4 minutes 29 seconds and had to settle for second place.

People Nelson Nelbberto had the best time in this competition until he reached the ten drums and he has obviously spent right about now. Nevertheless he does persevere to the end and takes third in a time of 4 minutes and 49 second.

Meanwhile a body building contest was also stage at Old Belize on Sunday, and these are the five contestants making a bid under the Belizean breeze.

Robert Howls has mass, he has symmetry, and the camera does like him, but his practice is only good enough for third place.

For certain Lindsford Buckley has a little more definition, for which the judges awarded him second place.

Ladies and Gentlemen meet the junior champion from Sunday?s events Michael Buckley and we concur with that particular decision.

We now introduce you to the three competitors in the senior class of body building out here today. And all three are no new comers to this particular sport.

My boy Dillon Jones is experienced. He has the bulk, he has the shape, but the judges say third place.

Former Mr. Belize, Roger Sutherland is still packed and is a legit world class contender, but he has to settle for second place. However, folks the reigning Mr. Belize was not about to abdicate his throne not anytime soon. And it shows on his body is as he takes top honours, and we say congratulations.

Turning to the football scene, the B.P.F.L.?s R.F.G. Insurance Cup Tournament kicked off this weekend with all six teams seeing action.

We join the M.C.C. clash yesterday between F.C. Belize and Wagiya. In the second half with a 1-1 score intact, when Lisbey Castillo fires this left foot that sees Shannon Flowers almost come up with the dreaded auto-goal, but the moment passes.

At the other end Jeromy James gets the pill in his office, but the office is close today.

The Dangriga Team does look dangerous when Gilbert Swaso finds Lloyd Nunez only to see the header inch over the crossbar.

We?re eighty-two minutes in the ballgame when the tie is shattered by this rebound off the goalkeeper. Gilbert Swaso comes up with the pill to score his second goal of the match, and power Wagiya of Dangriga to a 2-1 big w.

In other action around the league this weekend Belmopan Bandits blanked Hankook Verdes 2-zip, while Alpha of O.W. and Acros Lake settled for a scoreless stalemate.

In cycling news, we just want to quickly to tell you that there is a warm-up mountain bike race coming up this Sunday, August twentieth. It leaves from in front of Leslie?s Imports on Western Highway goes to mile twenty-one and back. If you want to get it you have to show up before race time, which is eight a.m. It is open to all barbershop and base boys. This is a warm-up for the big event, which is scheduled for Sunday, twenty-seventh August beginning at nine a.m. Impossible is Nothing presents this mighty mountain bike race and the overall winner takes a thousand dollars and a trophy.

Turning to the billiard scene, the Guiness 8 Ball Tournament reached its natural conclusion over the weekend. On Friday night Advanced jolted Impossible is Nothing 8-2. And we?re at Mike?s Club Saturday night where the host team must win all five matches to capture this year?s title.

We find Ben Abou-Nahra fighting to keep hope alive as he sinks the thirteen ball, but fails to ratio for the fourteen and has to make a hard shot on ten ball that fails.

For his part Angel Blair comes up with pure magic. The ration off the seven is perfect, but he fails to sink the two ball.

Ben has a new lease on life. He botches the ten to return the table back to Vargas.

Vargas gets an easy play at the two, and when he sinks the eight, he has beaten Ben by 3-zip.

In the other match, Bert Bradley is on form today, because George Tillett says he would have sunk that seven ball.

Unfortunately for him, Raymond Reid isn?t in a forgiving mood tonight inside Mike?s Club. He drops the thirteen, and then slices the eight to win the series over Bradley 3-zip, and Advance Advertising grabs the Belize City title 2006 edition for the third year in a row, and we say congratulations.

In cricket news, Brilliant of Crooked Tree moves on to the finals of this year National Cricket Tournament after edging Sunrise 233 to 232 runs on Saturday.

Meanwhile I should say, the other finalist should emerge when Excellence of Double Head meets Wicked 11 of Flowers Bank in the rubber match of this three game series at Lord?s Bank on Saturday August nineteenth.

Hey folks that?s our show for today. We invite you back same time, same place next week. Jah! Overall I am James Adderley.
