Major crime down for first 6 months of year

At the end of May, the Police Department released statistics which showed a trend of significant reduction in major crimes including murder, rape and robbery. That trend continued through to the end of June, and the half-year stats show that there have been one hundred and seven fewer major crimes from January to June of 2013 as compared to that same period in 2012. Notably, murder is down from seventy five in 2012 to fifty-nine in 2013. Rape is down from eighteen to twelve. Robbery is down from two hundred and forty-two to one hundred thirty-five and burglary is down from five hundred and forty-seven to four hundred sixty-eight. To round off major crimes, both theft and carnal knowledge showed increases – from four hundred and sixty-nine to four seventy-three and twenty-two to forty-one respectively. Also of note is that there are no murders recorded in Orange Walk in 2013, while there have been forty-six recorded in Belize City, the highest in the country.

An effect of the high crime rate in Belize is that we will not be vacationing in your country. We will probably go north to Cancun which is very safe. Bring down the crime and you will increase tourism which is a major revenue source for Belize. Good luck, we want to come and spend time in your country.
