FFB holds concert for Jaguars as they leave for Gold Cup

The Belize Jaguars, the national football selection, is leaving the country on Friday to the United States. The team will participate in the Gold Cup and its first game will be played against the United States in Portland, Oregon on Tuesday night. The Football Federation of Belize has raised most of the money needed for the journey but it is still short of fifty thousand dollars. The F.F.B. organized a national telethon and other organizations stepped up with other fundraisers including a dance and a barbecue. And though they leave on Friday, the Belize City Council is planning a concert to continue the fundraising drive for the team. News Five spoke to Berne, one of the performers, who is also the host of Saturday’s concert at the ITVET in Belize City.

”This Saturday Event: Belizean artists performing for the National team. We will be having a big major concert trying to raise funds for the national team. I mean this is an event right here that is going to be one of the most massive, massivest artist line up. Because right now what we are real excited about is the Belize National Team getting an opportunity to play against the U.S.A. in this big event and yow we can’t be more grateful for this opportunity and what we are doing is trying to raise funds for our team going to this major, major thing is we having a major concert man.”

“Which artist do you plan to have this weekend?”

Berne

“Man, it’s going to be, like I said its going to be a massive line up more artist than I can even have time to mention in this short brief newscast but we are going to have; Sweet Pain, Tanya Carter is going to be there. We are going to have the reggae girls. We are going to have Denise Castillo, Melonie Gillett, Miss Roxanne from Super Furia Band, Blackberry. T.R., Shyne there is going to be many, many more artists and I’m going to be there. This line up is going to be a hype line up we can’t wait for Saturday. Gates open at around noon. We going to be there for early setting up making sure everything is right. When you get there it is going to be on and popping.”

“We know the team won’t be here but whose your sponsors and what’s the cost of entrance?”

Berne

“Actually it is being sponsored by the Mayor along with Mr. “Boots” Martinez and a group of other has come together trying to make this thing a reality. The Belize Tourism Board, we have many people that are trying to put this together making sure that it is suppose to jumps off the that way it is supposed to.”

Entrance to the concert is ten dollars at the gate which will be open at midday and continue through to ten p.m.
