How low can you go? Stealing step daughter’s purse

Glen Miller

A man who pleaded guilty to stealing his stepdaughter’s purse got a lucky break today when he was fined and ordered to perform community service rather that jail time. Fifty-one year old Glen Miller was found with the purse in his possession after his step-daughter reported that she had put it down on a table while she was out on Friday.  Miller was charged for theft and handling stolen goods and although he pleaded guilty, he told Chief Magistrate Anne Marie Smith that somebody found the purse and gave it to him, but he was so drunk that he forgot to give it back to her. The Chief Magistrate was lenient and fined him three hundred dollars for the theft, to be paid by the end of August or he will serve six months behind bars. For handling stolen goods, Miller will have to give one hundred hours in community service at the Belize City Magistrate’s Court, starting tomorrow. If he does not complete that part of his sentence he will have to serve six months behind bars.
