Fonseca defends policies from foes within & without

Story PictureFor more than two years, the man they once called the “Minister of Everything” has kept a low profile. But this morning, Ralph Fonseca took the airwaves to talk about the politics and policies of the People’s United Party. Fonseca, appearing on the Love Morning Show, maintained that internal back biting has only strengthened his resolve to serve the people.

Ralph Fonseca, Minister of Home Affairs
?Ralph Fonseca only has one way to fight and that is with all guns blazing and that has never changed. As long as I am embattle with my opposition and embattle with those who want the best of two worlds, I come out with my guns blazing. But when I?m embattled in my own house, I?ve got to be careful as to how I come out with guns blazing, because I might end up destroying those things that I have worked all my life to create. Because of that, because I had some internal problems within our own party, I had to realize that it was not just Ralph Fonseca the person, but Ralph Fonseca the individual, who the party has entrusted the national campaign management with for almost twenty years, and the people of Rural Belize Central have entrusted their future with almost fourteen years. So I had to step back and look at the entire picture and calm down and realize that it would take time to deal with this story.?

?Because my role has always been a supportive role whether it was with George Price or now Said Musa. And because I have no agenda to take over the leadership of the party I have become another dangerous person if you like. Because I?m watching their back if you like. But that is my job and that in itself brings on some aggravation.?

?Now, and it?s just a couple that persist on this attack. As far as I?m concerned the members of Cabinet–all members of Cabinet–and myself have an understanding, if there is another outburst that will be another matter.?

?We had a national party council meeting yesterday and at that national party council the decision was made not to tolerate that sort of thing again, that is number one. I didn?t push that, although I obviously agree with it. I have a great deal of respect for the People?s United Party. As far as I am concern that is what has us here today, that is what has made Belize and that is the only future for Belize. I cannot put Ralph Fonseca in front of that yet, maybe the day might come that I will have to, but I am not there and I will never forget what George Price did for this country. I see what Said Musa is going through everyday and I cannot become another part of that problem. So I prefer to shut my mouth and take the lick and when the time comes speak up. I was the driving force for many of the policy stance that the Government took. How else are you going to build ten thousand houses if you do not get five hundred million dollars? How else will you create fifteen thousand jobs if you do not get our economy to grow past four, five percent? So there were many things that I have to be in the centre of because of the position I was in. My portfolio responsibilities covered one and a half of the government?s gazette and I too my job very seriously. I took my commitment for these manifestos very seriously.?

?I definitely created an atmosphere in government, in D.F.C. and in Social Security that we needed to do business. We said we needed to build ten thousand houses well let?s build ten thousand houses. We said we were going to create fifteen thousand jobs let?s do what we can to create fifteen thousand jobs. But if you are sitting on your rear end and you have just built fifty houses and you weren?t out there trying to sell it and that sort of thing then yes that is the sort of thing that aggravated me, when it got to my office. But certainly I would not been involved with putting nails into houses or application forms for loans or the securitization process, I had put too many people out there to do that.?
