Marin: U.D.P.?s are being politically immature

Story PictureFrom the political front, following contention between city councils and central government over celebrations money, tonight we understand that the situation has been sorted out, with the funds now in control of the Mayors. But one area representative is still seeing red, after personal allegations were levied against him by Mayor Hilberto Campos from Corozal. This afternoon, Vildo Marin told us that Campos’ statements are a reflection of political immaturity.

Vildo Marin, Area Representative, Corozal Bay
?I did in fact get a cheque for twenty-five thousand dollars to be spent on this year?s September celebrations. I did inform them at a meeting on Wednesday. I have to say from the very inception that I have always been the Chairman for the September celebrations committee. We have our marked differences and so on Thursday I called him to tell him that it is best that they celebrate the ninth and the tenth. Then I would form my own committee made up of members of the community to take over after the tenth. Some of those differences are a pity, but for me it seems that politics has gotten into it, and they certainly wanted to big up the ninth and tenth and down play the twenty-first, and certainly I would not agree to it. Another accusation which was done against me was the fact that I think the Mayor said I was being dictatorial. And quite frankly I am not a dictator but certainly I would not allow the Independence Day to be down played. That was what I was trying to do. Well certainly I feel we don?t have political maturity on the part of the U.D.P. Certainly we have political maturity on my part.?

In related news this evening we were informed that a telethon in Orange Walk to raise money for celebration festivities have netted some twenty-five thousand seven hundred and eighty-five dollars. According to Mayor Ravei Nunez that money will be spent on activities on the tenth and twenty-first.
