Soca music to explode at Princess poolside

Story PictureThanks to acts like Bryon Lee, soca music has become synonymous with the month long celebrations in September. And this tenth, that tradition will take the form of a host of Caribbean artists on stage in the old capital. News Five’s Jacqueline Godwin reports from Ladyville.

This morning, soca artist, Leon Caldero and an entourage of musicians arrived at the P.G.I.A. for a one night performance at the Princess Hotel and Casino this weekend.

?Right now, I am so excited I do not know I want to start dancing right now. I want to start listening to some music. I just want to get it going already. It is going to be an exciting show. We have a full packed show for you all and please you all can still get your tickets at the same outlets. The ticket outlets are Venus, Fedex Office and Tambran Stone. You cans till get tickets right there now.?

As the group prepared for an energized performance, the band was filled with mixed emotions. Oscar B, who was scheduled to appear this weekend, was unable to travel due very recent and sudden death of one of his parents.

Leon Caldero
?The show is already advertised and planned and on its way, but I call from Oscar B that his dad passed away. It is a situation where, I mean when you do not expect death you know and when it happens it just catches you by surprise even though it is a part of life but it is something that you have to deal with at the same time. He did not sound too good at all he will call in and do an interview himself to let Belizeans and his fans know what happened. He was in Canada recently and he was in Miami staying for a couple of days before his flight to come here and he had to rush back to Trinidad.?

The tragedy has inspired the band members to go all out this weekend, in honour of their colleague.

Leon Caldero
?We are doing new, not so new. Old not so old, you know everything we are doing a wide a variety of music that people, stuff we are doing cover version that people will be familiar with, original stuff as well. You know we will just be playing all kind of music.?
