One charged, one sought in PASMO burglary

Story PictureIn August, thieves hit the Belize City PASMO office with a vengeance, stealing everything from condoms to computers in just one weekend. But in Magistrate’s court today, one man accused of the crime was arraigned on charges of Burglary and Handling Stolen Goods. Nineteen year old Alex Olivera pleaded not guilty before Magistrate Margaret Gabb this morning who remanded him to Hattieville Prison until September twenty-sixth. On August eighteenth and nineteenth employees of the Pan American Social Marketing Organization reported that more than fifteen thousand dollars worth of computer equipment, cameras, condoms, a projector and a bicycle were stolen in separate incidents. Another suspect, Kenroy Arnold, believed to be Olivera’s accomplice, is still being sought by investigators. But Olivera’s troubles were not quite over as he was also charged with the theft of another computer and cash from a home on Teacher Street in August. He again submitted a plea of not guilty.
