Book Fair stresses joys of reading

Story PictureThe Belize National Library Service today hosted its fifth annual Book Fair and Open Day at the Leo Bradley Library under the theme: “Today a Reader, Tomorrow a Leader”. According to Shanna Rowland, Library Assistant at Leo Bradley, students and visitors got a chance to do more than just bury their heads in dusty pages.

?We have different games. We have the reading bingo, we have read a loud the game and we have read a fortune. Some of the other activities we have today are the Story Competition and the Read a loud competition. The book fair started and nine and it will go until three this evening. It doesn?t stop here, it goes out. It goes out to the school and we invite them to come in. We teach them to do research, how to use the material, how to use a book, and we give them a tour of the library. Even today at the book fair we are giving them tours if they request, so we are showing them how to use books and the importance of books. We are trying to show them that if you read a book it can take you around the world. It expands your imagination so you can sit in a classroom or in your living room wherever and you can imagine yourself reading about Australia or Israel and find yourself there through reading.?

If you would like to participate in other activities hosted by the Belize National Library Service, please contact Raymond Bradley at phone number 223-4249.
