Trafficking of Indian nationals through Belize

A bold attempt at smuggling eleven illegal immigrants through Belize, presumably en route to the United States, has resulted in several arrests, including the mechanic/driver of the British High Commission.  On Wednesday night, a detail of officers attached to the Mobile Interdiction Team nabbed a group of Indian nationals, who purportedly entered the country unlawfully at the western border.  The men, News Five understands, were heading north in the company of Clifton Hyde, who is employed at the British High Commission, when they encountered MIT personnel in the vicinity of Billy White in the area of Spanish Lookout.  A search of the party revealed that the men were in possession of what appears to be legitimate travel documents but had entered Belize illegally.  A second individual, identified as Belize Defense Force Private Rudolph Sho, has also been detained for his involvement in the failed human trafficking effort.  Sho, who is currently on interdiction, following a robbery at the Toledo Credit Union, is said to have been one of two officers who were aiding the convoy on its journey north.  Another officer, a sergeant in rank, is being sought in relation to the human trafficking bust.  All men remain in police custody and are expected to be charged in the Belmopan Magistrate’s Court on Friday.

Here’s a whole new group of corrupt public employees, involved in a pretty serious criminal enterprise. The involvement of someone from the High Commissioner’s office is pretty threatening, too, because that’s almost the last line to defend democracy and the rule of law here. What a joke!

Wonder how GOB will let them off this time, and sweep the crime under the rug? Will it be an amnesty for human traffickers, lost police file, amnesia, or simply sell them passports and citizenship if they vote UDP?

And for a side bet, will any Belizean reporters follow up on the story?

    Place your bets!

How much corruption could they uncover, and how high could they trace the criminality, if we had trained professional detectives looking into it, untainted by the pervasive corruption that is GOB in 2013?

Would you join me in welcoming British law enforcement investigating this crime?

Seems like everone can come and go to Belize as they please.

Seems like the very people that should be defending the border are the ones involved in moving people illegally across. Our country is messed up from top to bottom.
