Accident or intent? Cop shoots foot of North Creek resident

Arnold Anderson

A Belize City man is tonight recovering from a gunshot wound to the foot…not at a medical facility, but in fact at the Queen Street Police Station. Arnold Anderson was detained for weed following a search at his house, but the family is saying the cops are covering up the shooting by a female officer. Anderson was at his North Creek house socializing with his brother and a friend when just after one this afternoon; several police officers entered the yard to conduct a search. Complying with the orders of the officers, the men were reportedly placed along the fence and searched while the three houses in the yard were ransacked. Moments later, a single shot rang out; Anderson was shot to the left ankle. According to the officers, it was an accident…or at least that’s what the police are claiming says his sister.

Voice of: Ashanti Anderson, Sister of Shooting Victim

“About after one, I come from village because my ma mi sick and as I reach my ma yard about three police vehicle just pull up to the yard. The gate mi lock so dehn start to broke down the gate. So from then, I take out my phone and the try video everything. And the big police man, he just broke down the gate. All ah dehn come in with dehn gun cocked—one W (woman police). And only three young man mi deh ina the yard; my two bredda and wah neighbor. And as the police come, dehn tell them get on the fence and put up unu hands. All ah dehn put up dehn hand. The W gone dah my lee bredda. All weh I see she jus tgone like this and just shot my bredda ina ih foot. The quickness ah how as she shot ahn, the next senior officer come right side of him and take away the gun and walk away. And so I gone downstairs and say weh unu di shoot for? And then my bredda three year old son deh right deh dah the door di watch everything and he start to cry.  When I look, I see blood start to come from my bredda foot and he say I get shot; the W shot me. But I say weh happen? He say she just say this dah di one, this dah the one and just crank ih gun and shot he. And so I ask ahn what ih shot he fah? And ih say yow ah know right now.  When I look, wah corporal come. Me noh know if dah Miss Phyllis or what ih name; di direct them. Now dehn done search all the house and dehn noh find nothing. “Yes and all ah we ina the yard; everybody deh deh. Dah three houses ina di yard and at least five people mi deh deh. Dehn bring he dha the hospital and dehn can’t even find the bullet. Dehn deh deh di try find the bullet or the shell or whatever; it gone through ih foot and come out through the bottom. The police from internal affairs come and tell me that the officer, the W, doen admit that dah wah accident. So dehn want come get fi we perspective. So dehn wah ker he back dah station. Dehn say that they wah charge he fi di three weed roach. Five years police dehn noh gone dah my ma house. Nobody noh deh deh with no drugs, no ammunition, no nothing. Only my ma weh fifty-four years and two breddas live deh; dehn noh go dah no dance nowhere. Not even a record. Then dehn wah pull up there and then she wah say this dah the one and shot he. So ih look like dehn send dehn deh. So dehn came directly for him and shot ahn ina ih foot and in front of his three year old son. Ih son traumatize right now.”
