B.N.T.U. district branch consult on salary adjustment

Today the general membership of the Belize National Teachers Union (B.N.T.U.) Belize District Branch held a regular meeting at the Holy Redeemer Parish Hall in Belize City.  News Five spoke to Belize District President, Kathleen Flowers, who declined an interview at this time but stated that the meeting was a regular pre-convention session. We were able to confirm that one important item on the agenda was an update on government’s salary adjustment proposal, which has been presented to teachers and public officers countrywide. The negotiating team from the B.N.T.U., the Public Service Union (P.S.U.) and the Association of Public Service Senior Managers (A.P.S.S.M.), after input received during those sessions, has sent in a counter-proposal to government. Flowers, however, would not comment on the substance of that counter-proposal. Sources say that there will be another meeting very soon, and at that meeting they will be prepared to speak to the media. Of the more than six hundreds teachers registered in the branch, approximately three hundred and fifty attended the meeting today.

Mi heart go out to the teachers. They are the backbone of our education and if they struggle we suffer too. I just pray for God’s guidance for them.
