Preschooler parade for launch of Child Stimulation Month

There are events to honor our senior citizens, and others to showcase productive students at the Festival of Arts. But this entire month of March is one dedicated to our children. News Five’s Duane Moody attended the launch of Child Stimulation month in the Yabra area of Belize City.

Today hundreds of preschoolers marched through the streets of Belize City and gathered at the Yarborough Green for a morning of fun activities. It is the celebration of Child Stimulation Month held every March first.  This year, its theme is “Molding Today’s Learners Into Tomorrow’s Leaders.”

“For the opening we usually start with a parade with all the preschools to raise awareness of the preschools in Belize City and the importance of bringing children into the preschool which is to get them stimulated and ready for primary school.  The support from the parents; they need the exposure. This really builds their self confidence.”

The event had several performances from the children. But after a long walk, Corporate Citizen, San Cas was there to provide refreshments for the children. Marketing Manager, Aisha Rudon says that for the month, they have made a special Ovaltine ideal that will be issued across the country in celebration of youths.

“We support child stimulation month every year for the past five years and we’ve made Ovaltine our official drink for child stimulation month because it is a healthy drink. What we did today was providing some slight refreshments for them and we will be visiting some preschools countrywide. And what we will be doing there is talk about what our country has done community wise and also provide the children with Ovaltine—Ovaltine biscuits, Ovaltine drinks and we have a booklet to make your own Ovaltine ideals and snacks.”

And throughout the month, several activities will be held at preschools says the President of the Belize City Preschool Teachers Association.

“This coming week we have the sports day where the children will be involved in different little sporting activities. They have hug day where we teach them about good touch, bad touch and get them aware of the things that they could face. We have cultural day where this one is really exciting for them where they get to dress like different cultures, bringing the food from different cultures, have parents come in and so they also enjoy that.”
