Live comedy at the Bliss

Some promoters try to keep you stable in your seat in a theatre but performers at Friday night’s show hope you will fall out of your seats with laughter. “Drama meets Stand-Up” is a comedy show organized by local stand up comedian, Dillon Jones.  The event intends to merge traditional drama and stand-up comedy for hours of nonstop fun for the entire family. Some familiar faces from Channel Five’s hit shows, Duets and most recently Be the Next Superstar, will grace the stage as well as Trinidadian Comedian, Errol Fabien. Fabien has been traveling the comedy circuit for thirty-two years and he says that his performance for the night will feature an unforgettable character that he has perfected over the years. The entertainer arrived in the country on Tuesday. While Jones invited everyone to attend, Fabien gave a sample of his truth.

“I have to give kudos to channel 5 bringing back all of these acts because we see a lot of young talented actors on stage and I just want to keep it alive. We kinda giving back that respect to drama and now we join it and you get two for the price of one – Drama Meets Stand Up.  I have Collin from Ladyville—that’s the guy who won second on your show—I have Joseph Stamp and the Delinquent Crew, I have from the land of bamboo antenna, Patrick McPherson and Ava Kelly; I have Lionel Mangar, the maestro from Cayo. Of course, we have Mister Fabien from Trinidad who I have to say gave up a lot to be here and myself will be on stage. So people can expect a night of laughter because I told the “on stage actors” that I want comedy.”

“Well the thing here Duane, on the stage I only tell the truth. I noh make up nothing bout nobody. I swear… I only tell the truth. And that is what people could expect that my typical honest self. You see men are the most decent, loyal hardworking, loyal faithful misunderstood creatures that god has put on the planet. We will talk a bit about how unfortunate situations can be for men and how women need to understand us a little more.  A trip I’ve been looking forward to since I met Dillon on a trip last year in Los Angeles. When I saw him at breakfast, he was great and then when I saw him at breakfast, I didn’t know where all the food went. So I said he must come from a country that has a lot of food. So I said I must come here to witness for myself so I’ve been looking forward to coming to Belize—not just to eat, but to be live with the Belizean people. Sometimes I tell stories about my friends. I have a friend; I saw him last week. And I asked him how is business? And he said business is terrible. I said how you mean terrible? He say all the money gone. I said oh my god—and he had a good business. So I said what you gonna do? He said he is looking for an accountant. I said but you hired an accountant last year. He said that’s the one he looking for. True stories; everything I say is true. I don’t make up anything at all.”

So for a belly full of laughter this is one event you can add to your celebration.
