Man pleads guilty to drug possession

Allan James Meade

A tourist from Alaska vacationing in Caye Caulker was today arraigned for a single count of drug trafficking after he was caught with one point two grams of crack cocaine. But by this afternoon, twenty-nine year old Allan James Meade avoided jail time or a minimum fine of ten thousand dollars when he pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of possession of a drug. The office of the Director of Public Prosecutions accepted his guilty plea and Magistrate Dale Cayetano imposed a non-custodial sentence. The US national was fined four hundred dollars plus five dollars as cost of court. Meade, who is vacationing with his wife and two sons, was spotted by police acting suspiciously. He was approached, searched and inside his hand was a black plastic bag containing white powdery substance suspected to be crack cocaine. He was escorted to the Caye Caulker Police Station where the suspected crack cocaine was weighed in his presence.

  2. Storm says:

What a great dad and husband! I hope and assume he will be barred from returning here.

  3. ceo says:

Why do we always make it easy for these guys to come to our little country and support the drug trade. Really $405 BZ ($202 US) for a trafficking charge reduced to possession?

We have enough of crack heads in Belize unfortunately many are American made the rest are home grown.

Any Belizean who is picked up for this would be lost in prission in the US. Is this crap or what?
