Faada Henry’s protest against crime

The P.S.U. and the B.N.T.U. are finalizing the details for next week’s march in the Capital. But an enterprising individual and his friends have taken to the streets today for a different matter. Phillip ‘Faada’ Henry organized a protest in Battlefield Park in Belize City because of the increase in violent crime. Henry did not get much support from the public but he explained why it was necessary to stand his ground.

Phillip “Faada” Henry

“We had a good amount of people sending a message to Belmopan and the thirty-ne member of Cabinet. We need to look into crime that is in our country. The crime in our country is really escalating and nobody is paying attention to it. Just yesterday I was watching the newscast the Minister of Police was saying that he wants to dialogue with teachers. It sends a slap in the citizen of Belize’s face. He is the Minister of Police and he is not saying anything about crime. A young man just got shot down in the St. Martin’s Area in his back and that’s another person dead. It is over twelve persons in January and it is just the beginning of the year. Last year it was a hundred and forty-nine bodies perished in the streets because of crime and violence. I also am asking that we need to look into the abuse of some of the police officers. We know that Mister Segura is there to see crime go down. Yes I can work with Mister Segura and Miss Phillips because they are two wonderful citizens that want to see it go down. But I still want to see the abuse of the police officers go down. You need to read people their rights before you start to club people and do the wrong thing. Right now in Belize City, the business people who are also with us; who joined with us this morning out here, they are saying the same thing. Business is not working out for them and many businesses are closing down because of the crime and violence. Who are going to step up to the plate and say okay we need to ask to borrow some money to invest into crime and violence. I keep on hearing from the media houses that the gangs are terrorizing the city of Belize. No, we don’t have gang here; we have a bunch of citizen here are who frustrated, who needs jobs, who needs employment and different program for their children in order to live. Belize is reaching a stage where the people we are choosing are attorneys and attorneys are not the right people for us to put in office to run our country. So it is best for us to step up to the plate as their boss. When they wanted the job, they came to us and fill out the application and state that they can do better for Belize. But as far as I am concerned, they are doing better for themselves.”

For a self-proclaimed leader in the fight against crime, Henry starts his message with points few of us support — there are no gangs, and criminals’ rights need to be protected better.

Almost everyone who posts here is STRONGLY against violent crime and corruption, but I’m sure most of us approach it from a far different point of view. to me, the Jewel is in a war, and the gangsters are the enemy who must be destroyed. I think a march in favor of that proposal would attract more more supporters.

And what are you all doing??? Nothing but lip service, and more lip service!!! It is such a shame how you all are so quick to come on this blog and post judgemental comments!! Go and organize a march by yourself then and show Mr. Henry the way it should be done, or the way you would like it to be done!!!
