Robbery and gunman at B.T.B. shot

Crime and violence dominated the headlines in 2012; and if you expect that to change, well more of the same is ushering in 2013. On New Year’s Day alone, there was a murder on West canal, a shooting in downtown Belize City, a woman was stabbed in San Ignacio, a man was chopped multiple times in Biscayne and this afternoon, a robber was shot in a  robbery at the Belize Tourism Board. That robber is tonight hospitalized under heavy police guard after the robbery at the B.T.B.’s main office on Regent Street.  It was a daring stab at holding up a relatively secure facility, which resulted in multiple shots being fired. B.T.B. will be providing official comments at the completion of the investigation, but according to security personnel, a trio of men approached the building around four-thirty p.m. One of them proceeded to enter the premises, where he held up the cashier at gunpoint.  His accomplices presumably remained outside as lookouts.  Upon exiting the office, the gun-toting robber came into contact with the security team which opened fire on him while he attempted to flee towards Southern Foreshore. His accomplices, on the other hand, managed to make good their escape.  Immediately following the incident police and B.D.F. personnel swarmed the area in search of the duo.  At news time, there is no word on whether the accomplices have been detained.

Great job, security team! The more businesses and citizens that “harden their targets,” the better we will be.

I hope the rat will identify his accomplices — misery loves company.

Minimum sentence — at least 10 years. If he has a prior record, make it 25 and be done with him.

  2. Marie says:

Why didnt they shoot to killl an obvoius idiot? then he cries like a !@#$% when caught and pleads for his life like a loser coward

  3. melinda says:

I think that this was the only good news for the new year, but he should have died on the spot. Now we have to heal him and feed the sob.

  4. Belizean says:

Should have killed the guy, and the others too

  5. islander says:

I wish the shot would have been center of mass to at the very least paralyze him for life. Hope the wound to his food makes him walk with a limp so he is reminded of his stupidity for life.

  6. caribean dweller says:

Good for you! Now you have to house, feed and protect them! All tax payer money!……hummm, I just wondering who would be next?

  7. Buju says:

The comments are harsh but justifable!

These criminals are getting more brazen…. Great job officers!!!

  8. Belizean Pride says:

acts like a man behind the gun but when we saw him on the news, he cries a like a sissy, mein they should have shoot to kill, we are tired of this people terrorizing us working law abiding people.
BUT bet his mom is going to go on live news to say he was brutalized inhumanly. as usual unless she’s a shame to show her face she won’t do it. Hope not because that would be disgraceful for a mother.

  9. Al says:

This is what I am talking about, a crying bandit. I have always said that if these murderers had to face the hang man’s noose, they would wet their pants and cry like a baby. Take their guns weapons away and you have a bunch of coward boys who are playing at being gangsters. It is easy for them to take a life, trust me if they were made to face the death penalty these jelly bellys would show what cowards they really are. I am not saying the death penalty will totally do away with murder, but it would give these gangsters something to think about.

  10. Tashy says:

Why the news didn’t put the new born babies in he headline first. Keep giving them evil people too much attention. I am tired of watching the news and see that the first in line is something bad. Do something about that. Belize my sweet home you will pay for all your evil, God is watching

  11. bzean says:

Thank God my coworkers are okay!

  12. Southern says:

Security guard should have shoot to kill. Its high time these wannabe gangsters and criminals be
put down for good. The poor taxpayers pay for their medical attention to gun injuries and food in prison.

  13. Belizean_Citizen says:

He was crying because he was shot. If the security guard shot and killed him, he might have then been charged with something because it would be deemed excessive if he was fleeing.

  14. out of there now says:

Target to kill. You know how it works in Belize. It won’t be long before he is again on the streets.
