Mexican national released on bail, but still in custody

Pedro Alfonso Betancourt Reed

Mexican National, Pedro Alfonso Betancourt Reed, was busted along with two Belizeans on October seventh with over ten ounces of cocaine in a 2005 Ford Eco Sport SUV. All three were charged with drug trafficking and the two Belizeans; Alfonso Iglesias Junior of Consejo Road, Corozal and fifty-one year old Jose Nunez of San Pedro were released on bail. Betancourt, however, is considered a flight risk since he is a Mexican national and was remanded in custody. But he was granted bail of twenty-five thousand dollars late last week and while reports circulated that he met bail and was being held by police, the Director of Public Prosecutions, Cheryl Lynn Vidal, has confirmed that he remains in custody because he has been unable to meet bail. The bust was made after police were tipped off about the vehicle at C&B’s bar in Baezas Layout, Corozal Town. A total of eighteen small parcels were found inside the SUV.
