P.M. says Slusher/Alpuche dissolution letter is much to do about nothing

Dean Barrow

And as Zabaneh sticks by his release, so does the PM stick by his man, Slusher. PM Barrow made it clear today that he holds all confidence in Slusher. The PM had intervened in 2011, and advised Banks Holdings and CGA to facilitate a discussion of the dispute that would have taken place in Barbados. But his intervention in the private quarrel did not have the desired effect…and the situation continued to fester. But Barrow spoke of the email that has caused the distrust of the government. He says it was much ado about nothing and that it was simply an open discussion on how to protect the CGA’s assets if they ever became bankrupt.

Prime Minister Dean Barrow

“I am sure you read the email. I cannot understand for the life of me how that email could have been interpreted as prescribing the dissolution of CGA. What the email was saying is that because CGA is an organization, not an incorporated entity, if god forbids there should every come a time for whatever reasons—bankruptcy, creditors foreclosing—CGA would have to be dissolved; that we must think of ways that we can ensure that the assets can be safeguarded by way of an orderly dissolution. It is not prescribing that there should be a dissolution. It is saying for god’s sake, think ahead and make provisions so that in the event, the unlikely event, anything like that were to happen, we have our ducks in a row. How people get from that to suggesting the email was prescribing or wishing for the dissolution of CGA I will never be able to understand. In any event, in any event, man dah the Government of Belize makes policy. Mr. Slusher is an advisor. If you have a problem with what you think Mister Slusher is saying by way of advice to the government, he is my personal advisor so come to me. Some to me and don’t run off halfcocked and create a great big brouhaha when the truth is so straightforward and absolutely innocuous. CGA is indicating that together with another foreign private sector investor, strategic partner, they can raise the money to buy out Banks Holdings’ shares. They needs letters of comfort and assurance from government; they need for us to do certain things to facilitate that borrowing and we’ll be very happy to do that. It is obvious, without pointing fingers and without seeking to apportion blame that it is going to continue to prove impossible for CGA and Banks Holdings to work together. As long as those two remain the major players, the major owners of C.P.B.L. and are deadlocked, it is a recipe for continuing chaos. I believe it is absolutely accurate that Banks Holdings has say buy me out. And I think that same investment agreement provides for the ability of one side to buy out the other.”

If the buyout of C.P.B.L. does take place, it is conceived that it would be operationally controlled by the CGA and not by the investment partner.

I have a gut feeling that this …… the Barrow was really thinking of dissolving CGA. If Alpuche and Allen were talking about it is because it had come from someone and that someone is no other than este …… pendejo.
