Providing security for city council workers

Darrell Bradley

Forty-three year old David Myvette was shot and killed as he supervised a team of workmen, who were paving a section of Electric Avenue on Wednesday morning.  The father of five was mortally injured in a spray of bullets let loose by a pair of gunmen, who accosted him while on duty.  As many as twelve expended shells were recovered from the scene of the deadly shooting and tonight Belize City police are no closer to making any arrests.  The mid-morning murder has raised concerns from the management of Maheia’s United, the construction company hired to do the paving of several streets in the Lake Independence area.  By all accounts Myvette was not involved in gang activity and Belize City mayor Darrell Bradley told News Five that CitCo will try its best to see what security measures can be put in place to prevent such recurrence.

Darrell Bradley, Belize City Mayor

“That was a very unfortunate incident and all accounts are that he was very hardworking.  He was a very beloved employee and Carla spoke very highly of him and it’s something that we offer our condolences to his family and his friends.  It’s something that we grapple with as on a whole as a city, in terms of the situation with crime and we will be doing our best to see how we could put in place measures that would kind of minimize the risk to any of the workers who are working in any of our projects, I mean it’s very, very unfortunate and we will do our best to see what we could do.”
