Former cop, Conrad Jones, missing; have you seen him?

Conrad Jones

Sixty-four year old Conrad Jones left his house at eight o’clock on Wednesday morning to go to work, but he never made it back home and tonight his family fears the worst. Jones, who was a police officer for over thirty years, retired as assistant inspector and now works as a Customs Guard. His job takes him all over the country and on Wednesday evening, he went to Benque Viejo along with a driver for the Customs Department. As they returned, however, Jones was not brought to Belize City; instead he was dropped off on the highway and the driver took the Hattieville/Boom Road. His daughter, Shilpa Jones, says they have been told that her father was seen waiting for over three hours and then he disappeared.

“Yesterday, my mom called me at work and told me he did not return as yet. So I called his job because he’s a Custom Guard—I called his job and they were as shocked as me to find out that he had not returned as yet. His supervisor called us and explained that Wednesday four o’clock he took a trip with the driver to go to Benque. I’m thinking maybe they got there six, they did what they needed to do and then they came down. According to the supervisor, the young man who was driving the vehicle did not return to Belize City, he was going to proceed through the Hattieville/Boom road. So he left my dad at the roundabout between eleven-fifteen and eleven-thirty Wednesday night. According to my uncle, yesterday after we made the police report, he went on his own to Hattieville and he found out from sources out there that my dad, up to two-thirty, Thursday morning, he was still sitting at the bus stop waiting for a ride to come home and that’s the last anyone has ever seen of him.”

“So he would have had to hitchhike?”

Shilpa Jones

“Yes, he would have had to hitchhike or wait until a bus came to come home but he hasn’t come home as yet.”

“So at this point, the family is concerned that something might have happened to him?”

“Well, we’re hoping for the best. We don’t expect anything; we’re just praying and hoping. If somebody saw him, if somebody knows him to please contact us. I mean it’s difficult because yes, we know that this is the responsibility of the job, but it’s just heartbreaking to know that at eleven-thirty, minutes to two, after two he was still sitting out there waiting for a ride and the thing is it’s killing me because I’m wondering is my dad is pain, is he hurt? Did somebody hurt him? Because he doesn’t have anything; all he travels with is his ID and money to make sure he can come back home so we’re asking people that if they saw him or somebody passed and something looked suspicious to please just help us because it’s hard.”

There is a prime example of the mentality that exists in this country. This gentleman was on a business trip it seems, was it not the responsibility of the driver to deliver him home at that time of night. Who in their right mind would leave a co-worker on a deserted road after all busses have stopped running? I pray this Mr Jones is found safe. I hope there is some corrective action taken on the behavior and poor judgement of this person, his responsibility was to fenish his job and get this man home safely. I hope the customs department fire this person. Get some procedures in place for must occur when employees are traveling after regular work hours.

My heart goes out to Mr Jones’ family, I pray he is found alive and well. I am waiting to hear the rest of the story.

Did the driver have no conscience? Who leaves anyone on the highway at that time (bus available or not available). Hopefully, Mr Jones is found safe soon.

Mr Jones is by neighbor I hope and pray that he is found alive and well. What poor judgement on the Driver to left a senior person on the road at such an hour. Shame on him, I wonder how he will feel if somebody would have left his Mother or Father on the road side.

Our prayers are with the family!!!

But for the life of me I can not think what would be so important for this driver to leave a man on the road in the middle of the night???

I hope that driver was hurring to donate his kidney for a life saving surgery anything else would be unacceptable!
