Ken Dawg’s “For the Love of the Game” CD; just in time for Independence

As the September celebrations continue, local artists are making sure there is no shortage of Belizean music. Hip-hop artist Kenroy Williams, better known as Ken Dawg just released his latest music video for the song, Only One Can Win. It’s a motivational track from his album, For the Love of the Game Disc One and it encourages listeners not to give up. Williams says it’s a lesson he has personally learned as a Belizean artist and he has had increasing support for his music since releasing his first album in 1996. He stopped by our studios here on Coney Drive to tell us about the new video.

“This is my latest music video coming off the Trilogy series. It’s actually my fourth music video. It’s called only one can win done by Ken-Dawg featuring Ras Pin and Brother E. it was shot in Orange Walk, Sugar City and the reason why we chose to do a music video for this song is because we want to encourage people, keep faith, keep hope alive. Even though the song name Only One Can Win, it’s good to be played like before a game, a competition or even for motivation to not give up on life or something like that. So that’s the reason why we’re trying to restore hope in the lost ones in Belize and trying to motivate the people’s that are doing good already.”

“So can you tell us a bit more about what the song specifically is about?”

Kenroy “Ken Dawg” Williams

“Well, my verse is related to a struggling artist trying to get through. It’s kinda hard in Belize to get on shows and things like that but still I’m saying you shouldn’t give up, keep going and it’s just a motivated track, it’s just a motivated song. And my thing is that winners never quit and quitters never win, even the students you have to stay in school because you neva know what wah happen. I’m a dropout and I didn’t finish school so luckily I was given this talent by God so I’m using it help other people.”

“So your music, what genre do you do?”

Kenroy “Ken Dawg” Williams

“I’m a hip-hop artist, hip hop, rap, I’m an underground artist and I’m deciding to go main-stream with our music. We’re working on my fourth album to be released 2013 sometime around the Easter, February, March, something like that. The name of the album will be the Originals.”
