Frankie Reneau Master Classes Group of Students interested in Music

Frankie Reneau, renowned Belizean Pianist, has become a regular in the September Celebrations. Reneau, in his Masters Classes summer program, has been working with young Belizean talents to stage an annual concert. Joining Reneau will be some familiar faces from the local music scene including Tricia Gabourel and Jenny Lovell. The acclaimed composer spoke appeared on Open Your Eyes this morning to talk about the summer program and his latest collection of songs on hope and despair.

“Obviously, NICH are the ones who for the last four to five years bring me down here to do these; we call them master classes and not quite the right name, but what we have is a group of students who are interested in music who want to further their playing skills. I offer, perhaps, a different outlook on how to achieve the best in performance by dealing with style and technical things obviously as well. That, as I said, started some years ago and I’m happy that it continued because it also gives me an opportunity to come back home which is the one thing that I’ve always done for so, so many years. I’ve been trying in the last two or three years to add further dimension to the classes as in when we had the concert, I include the students and I give a concert as well after. Now I’ve been trying to broaden it and not to turn it into a variety show—I hate that word—but to give other types of music expression in my concert as well. I like all kinds of music as you can know and this year for instance I have written a collection called “Songs of Hope and Despair” reflecting things of the moment. And obviously the idea of crime and the situations that we have.”

It’s a must see concert you can’t miss on Friday night.  So see you at the Bliss at eight. Tickets available for twenty dollars at the Bliss.

An open question to Frankie Reneau,

How about a release of the original “Mass in blues”? That record is a classic and I have been hearing mutterings from a few corners that they would love to have a copy, especially on cd!
