C-NET+ robbed; HIV support group a victim

Just before three this afternoon, the office of Collaborative Network of People Living with HIV in Belize (C-NET) located behind the PASMO Building on Princess Margaret Drive was the target of robbers. Two men, one armed with a gun, accosted Assistant, Rick Campos, while the other proceeded to swipe two laptops, a radio and cash from the establishment. The bandits then escaped. Police arrived moments later to process the scene. News Five spoke with Campos who recounted the ordeal and says he believes the office was being monitored.

Via Phone: Rick Campos, Assistant, C-NET+

“At about two-fifty p.m. this afternoon, two dark-skinned male complexion guys came into the office. One held me at gunpoint and the other searched the office to see what he can take. He took two laptops, a radio and ninety dollars in cash. We also distribute groceries to people at the office. So we normally have people coming in and out of the office. So I’m not sure if they were already monitoring the place and seeing the work of the office and that’s why they just came in today. Usually there are two of us in the office, but today it was only me in the office.”

Duane Moody

“Did they come as customers or persons in need of help or just as bandits?”

Via Phone: Rick Campos

“They came as bandits; they didn’t come as customers.”

Duane Moody

“Did they say anything to you; anything at all?”

Via Phone: Rick Campos

“They just said that it was a robbery and for me to get on the ground and they pointed the gun on me. And like I said the other one proceeded to taking the things from the office.”

Duane Moody

“Did they wear masks or anything like that and was it only one of them that had a gun?”

Via Phone: Rick Campos

“Yes, it was only one that had a gun and they were not wearing any masked. One of them even said that he had just come out of prison and he didn’t care to go back to prison.”

Despite the robbery, CNET remained open to the public and business continued as usual.
