Earthquake hits Costa Rica

Alarms bells went off this morning when word spread that a tsunami warning was in effect for Belize and the rest of the Caribbean following a seven point six magnitude earthquake in Costa Rica. Well, it turned out to be a false alarm sent out erroneously by the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center and according to the National Emergency Management Organization (NEMO), it was later withdrawn. Meanwhile in Costa Rica, three persons died—two of them due to heart attacks and the other was crushed by a falling wall. Twenty persons were also injured as a result of the earthquake while are still missing as damage assessments continue. Shortly before eleven a.m., the quake struck about seven miles southeast of Nicoya, a town with a population of about fifteen thousand, which is about ninety miles from the capital, San Jose.
