2 shot in Belize City

Raheem Nicholas

Aside from the murder on Saturday night, there was more gun violence on the South Side. A recent spate of shootings in the area behind the Charles Bartlett Hyde Building, known as Gungulung, has resulted in the attempted murder of a teenager.  Nineteen year old Raheem Nicholas, a Belize City student, is tonight recovering from a single gunshot wound following an incident behind the Complex Building, on Mahogany Street, on Saturday.  Nicholas reported to police that he was walking along Alicia Street, an offshoot of La Croix Boulevard, when he was approached by a lone gunman on bicycle, who shot him once in the left shoulder.  Another shooting also took place over the weekend.  This time a twenty-four year old messenger was the target of a known gunman, as he rode his bicycle on Vernon Street.   Police Press Officer, Inspector Fitzroy Yearwood also shed light on those shootings.

“On the twenty-fifth, we have a shooting incident report made by Raheem Nicholas, a nineteen year old student.  When police visited the K.H.M.H. they saw him suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to the left shoulder.  Initial police reports reveal that Nicholas was walking on Alicia Street when a clear complexion male person rode up beside him on a beach cruiser bicycle.  This person said to him, “mek ah sih yo face.”  The male person then pulled out a firearm and fired a single shot in his direction causing his injury. On the twenty-sixth of August, police visited the K.H.M.H. where they saw Edmond Gentle, twenty-four years [old], messenger, suffering from apparent gunshot wounds to the right index finger and middle finger.  Initial investigation revealed that Gentle was riding contrary to the free flow of traffic on Vernon Street, near a Chinese shop, with another friend, when a man came out an alley off Lakeview Street, called out for him, he responded.  The person then took out a firearm and fired several shots towards his direction, causing his injuries.  So apparently he knows his assailant.”

Well, where it is a known gunman, he should be taken down in the harshest way. He is too dangerous to take a chance arresting peacefully, I think.
