ISP linked to Belize, ordered to block sites selling counterfeit goods

AltusHost is a European Internet Service Provider (ISP), but according to a PC article, it’s based in Belize and has recently been ordered to shut down twenty-five of its websites for selling counterfeit goods. AltusHost was sued by eleven high end companies including Breitling, Chanel, Christian Dior and Omega, which are trying to protect their trademarks. The case was handled on their behalf by an anti-counterfeiting network called REACT and on Tuesday a Dutch Judge, E.F. Brinkman, handed down his ruling at the Civil Court in The Hague. The sites to be blocked include,, and AltusHost has three days to block the domains or it will have to pay three thousand, one hundred and twelve US dollars for each additional day that are the sites are up. The ISP also cut a deal with the trademark holders to block any websites that are reported by REACT in the future for clearly promoting counterfeit goods. It was alleged that about half the six thousand or so websites hosted by AltusHost fall into the counterfeiting category, but that was denied by the ISP’s attorney.

Oops. It hurts our little nation’s reputation to be the home of international cheats of any kind. Karol Mello, these counterfeiters — what little news we make, it seems it is all related to criminal cheating.

Can we outdo Nigeria and North Korea?

  3. Al says:

I am amazed at how every illegal activity is finding its way to Belize. Could it be that the criminals know they are smarter than the law in Belize. It takes an entity outside of Belize tp uncover these unlawful activity. The immigration folks need to do better screening and those who licence companies need to have some investigative skills. Belize is so much in need of a total overhaul, which not only include government, but education also. Listen to the communication of students, creole should not be spoken in school, english should be the language in the schools. Please call for reform, it will be the only savior for Belize.

  4. Here we go again says:

foreign courts are clamping down on criminals in Belize, while we pamper our own pedophiles and drug smugglers. Belize is the next Haiti and Barrow is Pappa Doc
