Hit and Run death on Northern Highway

A fatal hit and run on Friday night claimed the life of fifty-eight year old Ruperto Alvarez of Vista Del Mar. Around eight that night Alvarez was knocked down near mile eight and a half in front of the Shell Gas Station in Ladyville when he attempted to cross the street. According to residents of the area, a White Ford Escape was travelling in the direction of Orange Walk in a speed of about eighty-five miles per hour. It hit Alvarez and flung him about a hundred feet away.  Alvarez received injuries to the right foot and head and he was pronounced dead on arrival at the K.H.M.H.  The SUV never stopped to render assistance and police are asking the public to help them identify the driver of the vehicle.

85 miles an hour sounds so reckless I would consider it akin to murder. It’s like firing into a crowd — you’re pretty sure to kill someone, you just don’t care who the victim is.

Some white Ford Escape is driving around with a lot of damage, and maybe blood and flesh on it, so let’s hope neighbors call a report in to the police.

This driver should stay in prison until he dies.

  2. Common Sense says:

I wonder how the world does the residents knew the SUV was going 85 mph? Internal radar detector in their eyes I believe.

  3. vannyd says:

a suv goin 85 m/h and hti someone at that speed, the driver will definately loose control of that suv….so dat resident is talkin nonsense..

  4. cayobway says:

the average weight of a vehicle is over 4000 pounds, the average weight of a human 200pounds even going 85 there is no way the auto will lose control if it make contact with a person, there will be some damage, but no loss of control.

  5. Simone says:

so people cant hear a car going so fast? maybe guy was drunk or walking slow like he owns the road and that “they have to stop”.

  6. John Mencias says:

To the IDIOT going by the name of ‘Simone’: I have a simple question for you: “What if it were your child or family member crossing the street, would your comments still be applicable?”. And this time, THINK (if you can) before you start spouting insensitive garbage.

  7. Wayne Greaves says:

    Mrs. Alvarez,

I have only today learnt of your husband’s passing. Please accept my belated condolence and may you find comfort in your memories over the years.

    Kindest regards,
