Mayor Bradley’s next project for Belize City

Darrell Bradley

There are several projects that are in place by the City Council to increase the quality of life. One includes the rehabilitation of at least fifty percent of streets in the City. On Wednesday, at the opening of Holy Emmanuel Street in the Lake Independence Area of Belize City, the Mayor spoke of another beautification project that will be executed shortly.

Darrell Bradley, Belize City Mayor

“Something that we are going to unleash right now is that we are working with Restore Belize and we will be painting all the houses along Orange Street and along Albert Street and along regent Street. And we want to be able to finish this before the end of September.”

Mr. Bradley you are doing an excellent job but please can you consider running in Belmopan for the next mayoral elections? Our current mayor is a damn joke, as a matter of fact his whole administration (councilors and all) are a joke and an anchor around the necks of the citizenry of Belmopan. Horrible streets with potholes that get a little bit of dirt filled in them and lasts only as long it doesn’t rain. Drunks and vagabonds are starting to pop up all over town stray dogs and stray trash everywhere. They have done nothing but made stupid decisions that comes from a lack of vision and fore thought. They talk about being cashed strapped, I think they would have the money needed to fund a lot of the much needed projects if they get rid of some of the over payed dead weight in their employ. They a stagnating the local economy, a prime example of this is what they did to the poor market vendors. It used to be that throughout the week people used to go out to sell at the designated vending area that serves fro market day. Then they sent a letter out saying that they can only sell on Tuesday and Fridays and they have not furnished a proper reason for doing so. But as I understand it someone that is close to the régime went to complain as he can only make it on Tuesdays and Fridays because he comes all the way from Corozal. So you are going to tell me that all must suffer to please one individual? Even if this is not the reason it still doesn’t make up for the fact that they have taken bread out of the mouth of the poor (which seems to always be the way of the political powers) and taken money away from the local economy. Think about it the vendors go out to sell (because they don’t have a traditional job in an office) and the people that work goes and purchase their goods. The vendors then take this money and go to back to their wholesalers and the wholesalers then in turn buy their goods which come into the country and passes through customs where they are charged duty and the Government gains revenue. I explain this because this fact is lost on the Belmopan City council. They are so short sighted as they themselves deprived themselves of the daily $10 fee that they collect from each vendor. Their economic ignorance is dwarfed only by the vastness of space.
