Romanian national not looking back on Belize

Robertino Oprescu

Our newsroom received an email from a man named Robertino Daniel Oprescu. He says that he is a Romanian citizen and he was allegedly illegally imprisoned by the Belize government. Oprescu said that he was fingered as the mastermind of a fraud at the K.H.M.H. He goes further to say that he believes that the government is violating the Belize laws and claims he was sent to the Hattieville prison for almost three month only because he was a foreigner. Oprescu said that he loves Belize as he made the country his home for five years. He ended the mail by offering moral support for Karol Mello who is detained at the prison. He said Mello should, “leave Belize while you can.”

Belize is a beautiful nation that could be near a paradise, especially compared to Eastern Europe. But we have no obligation to admit every murderer and conman who comes this way, and treat them as honored guests.

Mastermind a fraud at our hospital? He should stay in a prison for a long time.

Mello’s own government says he is a Mafia murderer — we don’t need that here. Send him go to get a court resolution of the problem.

We need to know the background of people coming here from exotic places — too often they have a nefarious, ulterior motive that is bad for the Jewel.

  2. Joe McGuire says:

These damn Police Officers are complete idiots, it’s like we have monkeys running our justice system.

  3. it's just that simple says:

He said Mello should, “leave Belize while you can.”
—>And Slovakia will personally fly him first class, to his homeland and beautiful concrete villa.
—>They are shooting a TV murder mystery and need some details for the script.

    Robertino Daniel Oprescu:
YES, the Government of Belize screwed up by allowing you out your hole.
—>But Romania will still personally fly you first class, to your homeland.
—>Be a man and make your case before a judge, defend your name, think of your mother.
—>Call your embassy now for tickets and hotel reservations.

AND now, the BIG Lesson for the little Government of Belize:
if INTERPOL has an arrest warrant, why delay?

Money is tight, let’s not feed them. Let their home country do that.
They are not from Zimbabwe or North Korea, they are not political refugees.
Odds are they are criminal psychopaths, the kind of trouble you don’t want in Hattieville prison.

Pedophiles & criminals wanted in the US are dispatched quickly when found in Belize.

Romania and Slovakia are members of the European Union.
This bond problem is getting bigger; someday soon, you might need to ask the EU for help.
Romania and Slovakia might think: Oh! it’s the Belizeans, they think they can screw with us?

  5. Holy Father says:

Fools rush in where wise men fear…… Thanks for the support of a brethen, but Karol Mello will be just fine. He does not need support nor advice.

Mello must spend a little time in jail. The government fish has got to look like they are really trying to extradite Mello. But Mello walks.

Holy Father predicts that Mello will be home (San Pedro) in time to see Santa as he jet ski into town with gifts for all. Relax Mello. Enjoy the free food, courtesy of the taxpayers. It will be over soon.

    Hi Rod,
In response to your statement “That’s why half of all belizeans are now living in the u.s.a”. I can only speak for myself not for half of all Belizeans living in the U. S.A., however, my reason for being in the U.S.A. has nothing to do with the current administration. The limited number of opportunities that was offered by the previous administration was the reason why I left Belize, which has lead to me earning a master’s degree. Your statement about Belize at one time the best country to live in, what was so great about living in Belize under previous administration at one time? I would love if Belize at one time is the Belize of now. Today many Belizeans are technology savvy, which has lead to many opportunities. Previously it seems as though technology growth was limited. I am proud to know that many Belizeans are furthering their education by attending 6th Form, UWI, and UB. The great nation of Belize continues to make advancement in many areas, for example, text messages, internet access, telephone access. I can now am proudly say that Belizeans today, have bachelors, masters, and P.H.D. degrees.
