Parts of Quintana Roo, Mexico damaged by Hurricane Ernesto

In Mahahual, Ernesto dumped heavy rains and knocked downed power lines and trees, causing outages in some areas as it passed through the state of Quintana Roo. Quintana Roo Governor, Roberto Angulo Borge, this morning issued the all clear after the storm had passed. Initial assessments from the Mexican officials show that there were no casualties and no significant infrastructural damage. Most roads are passable, except for a few with culvert problems, which are currently being repaired. Assessments are still being conducted to determine the extent of losses in corn and other crops. In preparation for the storm, over four hundred residents relocated to hurricane shelters in Tulum. TS Ernesto is expected to regain strength and perhaps be upgraded back to hurricane status on Thursday as it moves into the bay of Campeche.
