Marin says he’s not a land hog

Florencio Marin Jr.

But who’s telling the truth? Marin Junior, who has been at the center of the controversy, called into question the prime minister’s integrity following remarks made during the special sitting in which P.M. Barrow accused him of land grabbing.  According to Marin, he declared all of his assets before the Integrity Commission when he was elected to office in 2008.

Florencio Marin Jr., P.U.P. Area Representative, Corozal Southeast

“Firstly, all properties I own or have interest in, I have reported to the Integrity Commission from when I got elected in February 2008, these include Young Gial Macray, Corozal North which is my residence, a private purchase of property from Mr. Carlos Valencia in Ranchito and five acres of farmland from Mr. Hensley Jones in Ranchito. I think this is where the prime minister’s credibility completely went down the drain because he never emphasized this just one time, he said it three times in his presentation that I have properties in the village of Nuevo San Jose Palmar.  First of all, again that is false, plus he never said I have one property you know, he said I have one hundred and twenty-eight pieces of land in that village.  Now, why that is complete false is because for those of you who know Nuevo San Jose Palmar and the chairman Mr. Orlando Balam is here next to me with a copy of the list of all the lands in that village.  That particular land was given, I don’t have the specific dates but that particular land was given to the people of that village and no one can give out that land any which way they want, worst of all getting anybody else from outside.  So I have never had any property in there and now that I know the history of it I probably won’t get any property in that area.”
