Price of fuel at the pump goes up!

A huge drop of thirty dollar in butane prices took effect on July twentieth; that was good news for cooks, but tonight there’s bad news at the pumps for drivers. And the next time you head to the gas station you will feel the punch in your pockets. At midnight on Tuesday, an increase in the prices of fuel took effect. It means that premium gasoline is now selling for twelve dollars and three cents per gallon, a forty-four cent hike. Regular fuel went up thirty-five cent to eleven dollars and seven cents. Meanwhile, the cost of Diesel has increased by eighteen cents to ten dollars and seventeen cents.

There is no reason that gasoline should be this expensive in Belize, all this confirms is the contempt, that our government has for us as a people. I am sure that these ……… sit in cabinet and chuckle at the idea of the driving public trying to find the extra money for gas.

In the 70s 80s & 90s ripping off Belizeans at the gas pumps worked like this:

A shipment of gasolines would be offloaded at the Esso Terminal on consignment (pay after it is sold). The consignment would cost 25 cents per gallon. The big boys at Esso – Shell – Texaco would sell it to the gas stations at 50 cents per gallon. The gas stations would sell it to the consumer for 63 cents or thereabout to the consumers.

So why would the gas terminals sell consigned gas for double the price, when the American gas companies were asking for 25 cents only (per gallon). The local boys would pocket the additional 25cents per gallon profit.

What’s that? You don’t belive old Uncle Benji? Just ask Ed Mendez or Skippy Fuller or the big bad Ralph Fonseca. They will confirm this centenarian man’s story.

I noticed the price of fuel was already raised before Tuesday @ mid night. I would like to know who to report this to because I am sure that when I put in the $60.00 I told my wife gas went up Tuesday evening. This gas station is shell at the entrance to Belize City @ the Western highway round a bout.

That funny how prices are going up, when Crude oil prices are still below $90 at $87.22 per barrel and prices did go down the last time when prices were just over $90. All i can say is that GOB needs the money on the fuel tax.
