Belize City butcher goes to jail for allegedly stabbing another man

Joseph Castillo

A local butcher has been charged for allegedly stabbing another man during an altercation at Good Fortune Bar on Newtown Barracks. This morning, forty-three year old Joseph Castillo appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann Marie Smith and was charged with attempted murder, use of deadly means of harm and dangerous harm. He is accused of attacking thirty-nine year old Salvadoran national Jose Argueta, at around five p.m. on July eighth. Argueta told police that he was socializing with a friend at the bar, when he got into an argument with Castillo and was stabbed under the left arm.   No plea was taken in court today and bail was denied due to the nature of the offenses. Castillo has been remanded to the Belize Central Prison until August twentieth.
