Sports Monday weekend report with James Adderley

Good Evening, I’m James Adderley and this is Sports Monday.

The Harrison Park National Cricket Competition returned on Saturday to beautiful Lord’s Bank in an effort to conclude the decisive Game III in the semi-final round between Excellence of Double Head and Brilliant of Crooked Tree. Last Saturday, the rains forced both teams to abandon the pitch after Excellence who batted 1st had tallied 107 runs for 6 wickets. Thus today, thanks to the beautiful weather conditions we would find out which of the 2 makes it to the championship round. Unfortunately, for Brilliant, Sydney Martinez picked up where he left off last Saturday as he swings for 4. The big bat for Brilliant was Shane Westby who swings for 28 runs batted in while bowler Arturo Wade was responsible for 4 wickets. Nevertheless, Brilliant exits and Excellence of Double Head moves on to the 3 Game Championship against Western Eagles of Rancho Dolores which begins this Saturday, July 21st, at rancho Dolores. On the very next swing of the bat, Martinez strikes for a 6 as Excellence begin to stalk 300 runs. However, the run for Martinez comes to an abrupt halt when he tries to steal this single only to be taken out by an impressive defensive display from Brilliant. Sydney Martinez would lead his team with 52 runs batted in. The final out for Excellence comes on this long fly that is caught by Roy Moulton to limit Brilliant to a total of 192 runs with all out. In defence, Excellence got very good bowling from Ernest Nicholas who struck for 3 wickets. Kenny Broaster also came away with 3 wickets for his team as Excellence held Brilliant to only 122 runs.

Turning to the basketball scene, the Interoffice Basketball League concluded its semi-final round over the weekend. We caught up with Friday night’s ballgame at Big Birds Isle where Tuff & Nuff needed a win against Quan’s to force a decisive Game III. Again, unfortunately, we couldn’t get the numbers from the IBL. This Friday night folks, Tuff & Nuff were definitely on its game. Check this nice ball movement as Tyronne Edwards deals to Raul Roches who threads the needle to Keith Acosta and the deuce is automatic. The old veteran Acosta seems to have had a flash back as this finger roll demonstrates and he even gets a dunk after getting the assist from Edwards to top a 15-zip run from Tuff & Nuff to open the ballgame. In fact, this is the 1st bucket for Quan’s thanks to this left hand launch from Vinnie Garbutt. At the end of the 1st quarter, Quan’s is down 21 to 8. Stephen Williams gets going in the 2nd quarter as he extends himself for the trifecta. Talk about a monster dunk people, Keith Acosta pushes to Farrom Lauriano who hammers it home for the 2 pts. At the half, Tuff & Nuff is up 33 to 15.

As a matter of fact, Tuff & Nuff would never look back as they go on to post the 63 – 41 blowout to force a Game III. In Game III on Saturday night, they burned Quan’s 62 – 61 and are now in the Championship series. Also into the championship series is Alamilla’s who also got a 1 point Win on Saturday night in a 63 – 62 final score that sent CYDP packing. The 5-game finals gets off on Thursday night at Big Bird’s Isle.

Finally folks, we wish our Olympic team consisting of Kaina Martinez in the 100 meters, Kenneth Medwood in the 400 hurdles and Eddermys Sanchez in Judo at the 66 Kilograms weight class, the best in the London Olympics which gets off on 27th July.

Jah over all, I’m James Adderley.
