Rape conviction upheld
Not all the cases were highbrow, but they were two notable victories for prosecutors. Two men who filed appeals after being convicted of separate crimes received additional bad news. A taxi driver, twenty-five year old Ludin Najera, was convicted on February sixteenth, 2011 in the Belmopan Supreme Court for raping an American national who was doing volunteer work in the Cayo District. He was sentenced to eleven years behind bars. The victim had testified during the trial that she was on her way home in Najera’s taxi when the car broke down and he got out to fix it, or at least that’s what she thought. Instead, he pulled out a machete and attacked her. The woman says that when she attempted to escape, she tripped that’s when Najera caught her and raped her. His attorney in the appeal was Hubert Elrington, who submitted in court that there was uncertainty about the identity of the perpetrator throughout his client’s trial. According to Elrington, the prosecution relied on the evidence of the complainant, who did not say whether she saw the face of the taxi driver who took her home that night. He further submitted that the woman was confusing Najera with another taxi driver, who had took her home from a nightclub. But the panel of Appeals Judges dismissed the appeal and Najera was returned to the Belize Central Prison where he will continue to serve the remainder of his eleven year sentence.
Here we go again the brother of another high ranking government official contributing to the criminal element that plagues this country. I understand that every one is entitled to representation, but attorneys instead of thinking about the all mighty dollar should really look at the guilt or innocence of their clients and due their duty of taking plea bargains if there clients are truly guilty. If every attorney agree to operate based on conscience these crooks would think twice. Every crook knows that if you get caertain attornies you can beat raps even if guilty. Get some conscience legal pigeons and help your community, do the right thing and stop living for the dollar, some day it will be your turn and I am sure you will want justice, which you all have denied some victims and their families.
Good for that @$$hole he deserves more than that
Very seriously, we should enact a law that REQUIRES castration of all convicted rapists and child molesters. There are a lot of studies around the world that show that sex offenders have a very high rate of repeating their crimes. It would prevent future victims to snip their tools.
Storm, i would gladly castrate him myself if you will hold him down for me. I agree with your idea.
