Burglars you don’t know and the thief who works for you
Police officers in the nation’s capital conducted a search at an abandoned lot in the Maya Mopan Area on June thirtieth. They found a nine millimeter pistol along with a magazine containing ten live nine millimeter rounds. No one was in the area at the time and the items were labeled and deposited as found property. And though the cops in the West removed one weapon from the street, another gun came into the hands of criminals during a burglary on the Belize Corozal Road in the North. Thieves in Orange Walk burglarized a business and left with close to sixteen thousand dollars in valuables. Edalmi Urbina reported that between five p.m. on June twenty-seventh and seven-fifty a.m. on June twenty eighth, her office at Mike’s Rebuilders was burglarized. The thieves escaped with an assortment of jewelry including gold and diamond necklaces, rings and earrings valued at thirteen thousand seven hundred and fifty dollars. They also stole a nine millimeter pistol valued at two thousand dollars. And while the identity of the Orange Walk thieves are unknown; in San Pedro, a retired U.S. national who lives three and a half miles south of the town knew the man who stole from him quite well. In fact, the thief was his employee. Forty-three year old Pateric Roemer made wire transfers on February fourteenth and May fourteenth totaling fourteen thousand six hundred and twenty four dollars to thirty-three year old Jimmy Salazar. Salazar’s instruction was to pay bills owed to the Belize Tourism Board. But on June twenty-ninth when Roemer visited the B.T.B., he found out that none of his bills had been paid since February. Police have since detained Jimmy Salazar for questioning.
