Fete ushers in the Season of Carnival

Jessel Lauriano

September is still a few months away, but the first event of the upcoming carnival season takes place this weekend.  To kick things off, the Instigate Carnival Fete is taking place this Sunday. The event is held early because it is an opportunity for carnival bands to raise start-up funds for the very expensive costumes that will be on display in the annual road mach. Jessel Lauriano, the Assistant to the Carnival Commission, told News Five today that the fete will be an event for the entire family to enjoy, while supporting their favorite groups.

Jessel Lauriano, Assistant, Carnival Commission

“This weekend we’re having the Instigate Carnival Fete, which will be held at the B.T.L. Park from four p.m. to ten p.m.  The Fete is—we’re launching the carnival calendar and we have, I think it’s ten events for this carnival season and the Fete itself, the carnival bands will out there; all of the carnival bands and I must say we’re having a huge carnival this year. So far we have ten senior bands and five junior bands and this year we’re having carnivals from Orange Walk, Dangriga and Toledo participating in this year’s carnival. The Fete, we’ll be having all the carnival bands out there, they will have stalls set up; a lot of food, a lot of games set up for the kids and this year, we have DJ Dixie, he was the winner for last year’s DJ faceoff competition. This is also a fundraiser; all the monies that will be raised will be going to the carnival bands because it’s them who are actually having their booths out there. This is a great time to come out; there will be enough security so you can have a lot of fun out there, knowing that you will be safe. And come out and have some fun and sign up for a carnival band.”

After the Fete, the next event on the carnival calendar is the Little Miss Carnival, which will be held at the Bliss on July eighth.
