Shots fired into a group; one dead, several injured

Joseph Myers

In the Old Capital, a group of eight persons came under gunfire at about seven o’clock on Friday night. It all happened on the verandah of a school on Maskall Street. The group, including a sixteen year old female minor, was hanging out at the Living Hope Preparatory School when gunmen rode up and unleashed a hail of bullets. The eight fled for cover but the bullets hit four of them, including Joseph Myers, also known as Chino. Myers was transported to the K.H.M.H. and died whole undergoing surgery. Another success for Hon. Barrow’s gang truce! The result of our PM’s policy is the bloodiest year in the history of the nation, a bloodbath.

When your policy fails, it is insanity to continue it.

  2. Rod says:

Damm yearwood no move from tha seat now the gov. Is trying to blame all murders on gangs well a lot of these murders are innocent people with no gang affiliation but the useless pm and gov. Are now trying to cover up their impotence.

  3. Disown mi country says:

I agree with you Rod. Like I said before, Belize….the Wild,Wild West. Stay away would be visitors. Spend your dollars elsewhere.

  4. BMNJ says:

At least one person in that group being shot at is either a gang member or gang affiliated. ‘Boys’ and ‘girls’ try to find out the backgrounds of your so called ‘friends’ and those who you are hanging out with. By doing a little research will at least reduce the probability of you getting shot at because of one person in that group who is either a gang member or gang affiliate.

  5. SP says:

WTF? ‘a lee misunderstanding and slight get outta hand.’ So that warrants murder? Remember people even you no look fi trouble, trouble might come look fi you!

To disown mi country, i can tell you are not living/working in Belize. There are still plenty places that would be visitors could go to. Stop talking BS, cause a lot of people here still work for the tourism dalla, and we strive to keep these places as safe as we can. So be careful that immigration does not stop you at the next check point or you will be forced to come back and see how we earn our $$ in what we can still call home.

  6. Sasha says:

Plain & Simple, if you know someone is a gang member & u love your life don’t hang around these WORTHLESSNESS because that is exactly what your life will become.

  7. melinda bejerano says:

Let me say htis: it is out of hand. All of us black people killing each other as if life is worth nothing. Any lee argument and we pick up gun and machete. WE have to wiipe out the gangs, and no, i will not condemn my country for the sake of a small crazy head minority whose parents chose America rather than bear it out here in Belize like the rest of us. Frig them, one day there will be none left standing, just i pray for the innocent victims. Parents dont let your children hang out with gang members: its not cool. Lash them bottom if they no listen, to hell with NOPCA. What was a 16 year old girl doing there? Di sprang?

  8. Disown mi country says:

SP,that’s the point. Cut off the tourism dollar and the government will be forced to take action.

  9. ProudBelizean says:

Such senseless acts of violence. Mr. Prime Minister please hear the cries of the Belizean people. WE NEED HELP! To all the Belizean fathers… when you stand up our boys will sit down.
